Music followed him wherever he went, be it church, his after-school program, at home, in the shower etc. Regardless, he questioned whether it was the right route for him to take career wise. Mustering up the confidence his senior year, he auditioned for Berklee College of Music and got in! Mark made the most of his time at Berklee; he performed in on-campus shows/productions, did countless reference vocals for songwriters, contributed vocals for Music Production and Engineering students, co-wrote songs and sang background vocals for his peers. One of these many collaborations led to a viral video on YouTube. In December 2013, there was a video that was uploaded of Mark singing "Oh Holy Night" in Boston's Museum of Fine Arts with Berklee's Loft Session Music made a gigantic buzz, was shared all over the web and got major news coverage. Mark is now enjoying music as his full time job. Not only are we getting excited about the upcoming festival and all the awesome entertainment and education that awaits, the hotels are getting excited to welcome you as well! We have partnered with some of the newest and best properties in town. They are offering great room rates JUST for festival attendees, but they will be gone by FEBRUARY 1! Go to the website for direct links to each hotel's booking page. You will not find better rates, with better locations in all of Central Oregon. Individual tickets are now on sale for the exciting "Sing Off" competition and the sizzling Showcase performance featuring The House Jacks! Go to the Tower Theatre website to purchase your seats to the hottest, snow melting shows in town! John Pointer (http://johnpointer.com), a.k.a. “Squinty Phil”, grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He earned a degree in Cello Performance and Composition from UT Austin and has been a full time musician based there ever since. He created and led the pioneering a cappella & body percussion ensemble Schrödinger’s Cat and was the beatboxer in the Chili’s Baby Back Ribs commercials. He’s a pretty ridiculous guitarist, played Judas in Jesus Christ Superstar and Roger in RENT, has commercially released 9 albums with several different groups, and the Mayor and City Council of Austin declared January 27th 2005 “John Pointer Day”. What?! Yes… evidently they do that down there. Thank you, tax dollars! He also founded and launched Patronism.com, a direct subscription platform for patrons to easily find and serially fund their favorite musicians in a way that benefits everyone. You can legally download unlimited albums, live recordings and other rare tracks of his while helping him make more at http://patronism.com/johnpointer. Right now John is vying to win the Austin Music Award. Help him out by going to the Austin Chronicle 's online ballot to vote. The award winner is announced at the @Austin Music Awards in March at South by Southwest. Here's how to do it, in three easy steps: 1. Copy: John Pointer 2. Click here, and paste to taste: http://www.austinchronicle.com/polls/musicpoll/15/ 3. Share this with your friends. Your votes and theirs are the only way I can have a shot at a Black Fret grant (which awards grants to amazing artists). We cannot wait to welcome him to the Bend A Cappella Festival and get a taste of his amazing talents! |
